Hi, I’m Laura.

Viennese, globetrotter, hooked on travel ever since my own year abroad in Australia. I write the way I live – honest and unfiltered.

Work and Travel Year Abroad Travel Financing

Who I am

I’m 27, I live in Vienna, and right after finishing school (the Austrian Matura) I spent a year in Australia – work and travel with everything that comes with it: farm work, language barriers, a tight budget and the best memories of my life. I’m open about the fact that I couldn’t afford the year entirely out of my own pocket and that I tried a few ways of funding it that hardly anyone talks about openly.

On Work-And-Travel-Blog.at I write about what I’ve experienced myself: how to get the right visa, which jobs are really worth it on the ground, and how I ended up financing my year abroad – including support I would never have talked about publicly before.

How it all began

Right after school I knew I wanted to get out of Austria before deciding on a degree. The planning was messier than expected – visa, flight, first accommodation, everything had to be organised while my savings slowly melted away. A sugar daddy I met shortly before departure helped me financially through the first uncertain weeks until I found my first job on a farm in Queensland.

Those experiences shaped me. I want to pass them on because back then I would have loved someone to tell me honestly how to really plan and fund a year abroad.

What to expect here

I write every post from a personal perspective, with my own experiences and concrete tips. No generic “How to make your year abroad perfect” guide, but content that genuinely helps – whether you’re just starting to plan or are already in the middle of preparing.
